From January 10 to May 10
At Upsete, there are almost unlimited opportunities for skiing in untouched terrain. You can choose tours with views of the Sognefjord or Hardangerfjord. When conditions allow, there are prepared ski trails from Mjølfjell to Upsete. The ski terrain around Fjellstova is suitable for both children and adults, young and old.
There are also many peaks and good conditions for mountain skiing and summit tours with randonee skis. The area has been used for years, from Nansen's trips over the Vossaskavlen to today's events such as Fri Flyt High Camp. The season starts early with good skiing conditions, and Upsete Fjellstove has a well-known man in charge of operations. In different snow, wind and snow conditions, local knowledge is important to make winter tours safe and to recommend the best tours based on weather and conditions.
Before Easter, Voss Utferdslag will be cutting a trail from Upsete to the unmanned Kaldavasshytta. It is also possible to ski to the self-service Hallingskeidhytta above Vossaskavlen, for those who are used to the mountains and have good skiing skills. This is the route Fridtjof Nansen walked from Oslo to Bergen in 1884. You can also walk in the World Heritage area to the self-service Grindaflethytta.
Fjellstova is a perfect starting point for classics such as Vassfjøra (the queen of Hardanger) and Trollanuten, with unique views of the fjords. Or Øykjafonn with views of Hallingskarvet and Jøkulen
We offer a winter hiking booklet with maps and descriptions of the summit tours around Fjellstova, as well as rental of summit equipment and sale of avalanche packages. There's also room for quiet reflection with a good book.
